Hey peoples. Here are a few shots of some B52s i got from Matt about a month or so ago. First true non dormant leaves are out. The two large traps that are closed was the result of a successful manual feeding with re-hydrated crickets.
Enjoy the pics More to follow in time
photo period 16 hrs
lighting 2 ea 65w 67k compact fluorescent lighting.
approx 5 inches from light to top of cup
Those cups are 4 inches in diameter.

Thanx D,, I got them shipped to me dormant from Matt,, and i started to bring them out right away. I do Miss the deep red dormant traps they had that I got from Matt when they arrived. But with enough light they should color up big time. Once summer breaks i plant to let them "out side" for full florida sun and weekend hunting. And bring them in during the week under artificial lighting. I would let them stay out all summer long but during they day I am at work so i cant mist them or bring them in when we have a few of our serious summer time thunder boomers.

I've noticed that the longer traps stay open, the redder they'll get. And if a trap is tripped closed, it typically stops coloring up after that. So if you feed the traps, they'll likely not get as much color.

Treu Matt I am not complaining at all. I understand the thing of bright light and an open trap. But like a a mother hen who can resist an open mouth like a b52 trap and dying to feed it LOL. The plants are doing great Matt! I did a strike with the flower stalks hopping for some growth,, If no no problem. One of the plants you sent me Matt the rhizome is so knobby and all that next year with out a doubt I will be doing some bulb splittings.

Matt may i ask ,,, what do you think of the LED red/blue lighting? I know the cost benefit is great! But has anyone seen any serious growth changes. I have been following the artificial lighting thread from time to time. I do notice this when i have full sun. I am tempted to put my plants out there ,, it looks so much brighter and "cleaner".. I think during the summer I will give them as much natural sun as possible and in the evenings supplement with ariticial light to maintain a 16 hr photo period.

You cant beat that!! I do have my eye on low giants and big mouths,, I love the B52's But i love the low lying rosette style big traps growing close to the ground

I've not yet tried LEDs personally. I've seen results from Steve's and Gary's (goldslinger) plants and they look pretty darn good.

I'm with you there. I prefer the plants that stay low to the ground all year. Low Giant is the winner in that category and gets traps about the same size as B52. Big Mouth also stays pretty low to the ground, but doesn't get traps quite as large. But what it lacks in size, it makes up for with coloration getting deep red traps quicker and easier than B52.

Agreed Matt, Once i get off the road and can be home for a two weeks or more,, You might see an order for the low giant and or big mouth. It being almost spring and all.. I hope your inventory of low giants and big mouths will be avail when i am able to order. Once again at any rate I am VERY happy with the "buffs" (B52s) I got.. On a side note Back in the day when i was air force we called the B52 bombers "BUFFs) Big Ugly Flying Fortress,, and as the fighter pilots would call them Big Ugly Flying F*&^er... Fighter pilots make movies Bomber pilots make history. You cant go wrong with a B52 be it an aircraft or a CP.

Me either. They're much larger than when I sent them, but the ones in my greenhouse are still hunkered down in their small, winter growth mode. With the extended winter we're getting here (15°F to 20°F below normal right now) it might be a while before they look that good :(
