The hard part about side-by-side controlled tests is the variability in the plants themselves. I have divisions from the same parent, in the same pots/soil/water/light, grow very differently. Azoxystrobin would need to have a dramatic effect on them for me to say that it worked.

This is very true as this has been my experience with VFTs as well. Divisions with similar rhizome sizes from the same parent plant growing in the same media and in the same tray, yet looks very different in regards to growth rates.

I did a small side-by-side comparison (originally a test to see how much I could increase the daily photoperiod before seeing negative effects). These plants were all leaf-pulled clones from the same plant. Three cups on the right got weekly waterings of azoxystrobin (Scott's DiseaseEx added to distilled water until 100 ppm). Two cups on the left got normal RO water.

They are have been getting ~22 hours of light per day for 2 months. Biggest difference is that the untreated plants had more blackened traps. Every plant looks worse than it did at the beginning of the experiment, but this was a weak cultivar to begin with. A better test would have a much larger sample size, with multiple different cultivars.

Doesn't setting the TDS to 100ppm cause some damage to the plants? I thought the general cutoff for vfts was around 50ppm.

I believe VFTs can handle up to 100. 50 ppm is one of those safe "general cp" kind of rules. Anyway, short term dose of high ppm isn't going to be harmful to the plant, especially when it's that close. Also, sometimes it's more about what's in the water than the ppm itself

I completely agree with you, my well water is at 60 PPM and I use it all the time on all my CPs without any signs of mineral poisoning.
