I've got some vanilla growing but then again, I'm in Miami and they can grow outdoors year round
They like high humidity, warm temperatures (no freezing), and want to climb upwards before it will bloom, the flowers last half a day and need to be pollinated in the morning or you won't get any seed pods
If you're looking to make vanilla extract, consider using Leptotes bicolor, it was used to make vanilla flavoring in the past in Brazil before Vanilla and it's much easier to grow indoors

I planted a small piece outside near my air conditioner’s evaporator unit about 10 years ago. I live in Florida, in USDA Zone 9b. I tried my best to get to it when it flowers, but even after hand pollination, I have yet to get a single bean. It’s vigorous here, and grows quite nicely. I’ll snap a photo of it once the sun comes up.
