Do any of you grow Drosera magnifica? I just wanted to see how far this species has gotten along in cultivation and if anyone had an estimate of when it would be sold in the U. S. I've heard someone on the forum has one and it would be nice to see how it was coming along . Care tips would be appreciated. Although I don't own one (yet :D) it wouldn't hurt to be ready.
Thanks in advance,

drosera-magnifica-t39066.html

You can't have a carriage return between the html and the [/url] tag.

D. magnifica update: My plant did crash and burn.
The growing point turned Black and died.
But the plant is still alive.
It generated a second growth point from a leaf axil.
It is growing again.
I will transplant it this weekend into a Regia/Drosophyllum nedia mix, 80% - 90% Perlite or Granite/Marble gravel and 10% - 20% Peatmoss.
I will top water it like my regias and Droso.

On the flip side, I did get two strikes from my D. magnifica leaf cutting. (Leaf damaged in shipping) and now have two tiny Drosera magnifica plantlets.

So there is almost always hope.

If I have time, I'll try to grab a pic or two this weekend.

Good growing,
Mike

Thanks for the response, Mike! I hope the Magnifica does well for you and i'm sorry to hear it crashed . It's good that you got two strikes on the leaf though :D. Also, where did you obtain the magnifica?

It's not that unusual for a plant to crash.
If your basic growing setup is sound, the odds are the plant will come back.
The big thing is, "Don't Panic!!!".
If anyone actually saw my grow area, they'd see that at any given time, a good percentage of my CP look mediocre or worse.

I got it this Spring through a group order from BCP, Best Carnivorous Plants.
Kamil Pasek runs it.
It's a CP store in the Czech Republic.

Good growing,
Mike

Hi, iamjacksplants!

Great! That magnifica is one of the more red specimens I've seen. Also, just wondering, what's that nep in the foreground in the second pic? It's gorgeous!

Thanks,

Thanks! You should check out California Carnivores Instagram, they have the best looking magnifica I have seen so far.

The Nepenthes is N. platychila x veitchii.

Happy growing!

Here are some shots from today.
There are also two tiny plantlets grown from a broken leaf when the plant initially arrived.
You can see them in the first photo to the Left of the main plant(s).

It's interesting how many plants I've seen have a distinct curling of the laminae where emerging leaves don't unfurl fully. I don't know the reason, and as I don't grow magnifica I am very unqualified to provide one, but your plant is one of the few I've seen without the leaf curling. Beautiful specimen!
