Hi, I need to know if the aluminium lids that come with the jars would give me any problems. I know that a few years ago thats the lids people used. But I was short of money and did not buy those special lids everyone uses now.

You an use them but you have to puncture a hole in them and then cover the hole with a round bandaid to allow gas exchange to occur. Also, i am not sure about pressure cooking or microwaving them so be careful and do that at your own risk

But, is it the gas exchange really nesesary?

for plants, yea. Plants need to undergo respiration

So for that i just make a hole in the lid and put cotton, right?
