Adelae care (decapitated to grow back)

I recently decapitated my Adelae because it was not cared for properly before I got it. I repotted it, waited until it recovered and made sure it was healthy and growing, then cut off everything above the soil to give it a fresh start, since they grow back from the roots. I have a few questions about care at this point...
How wet should the soil be? I've been keeping it watered by filling the tray before it evaporates completely and also using a spray bottle on the top soil to keep it moist. I'm worried about root rot though. Or should I water it like a VFT and not spray the soil at all?
How long does it take (ish) until new growth appears?
