I went today on a fieldtrip with my friends to find a very special orchid in it's natural habitat... The Spiranthes spiralis, the Autumn Lady's-tresses. This species is very special - it is critically endangered in it's natural habitat, extremely rare in Poland and neighbouring countries. We were tracking this species down for a long time, finally forund it in a remote area of the Carpathian Mountains, in a place were traditional pasture still occurs, allowing the plant to thrive on the fields. We could enjoy the sight of these fascinating plants, adaptated to grow only on pasture fields but we are not forgetting about it's poor future. The number of sites is decreasing in an alarming rate... only a few sites left in the whole country.
