Well, my mom got me a plant for my birthday! It was grown at a local orchid nursery. I'm pretty excited to start growing it, the flowers are just so beautiful. It also came with live sphag as the bottom covering, so I'm hoping to get some of that going as well. Can I just pull some of the live sphag and put it into it's own container?

Anyway, here's my plant:

Should the orchid be watered with distilled water like CPs or is it ok to give them tap water?

Orchids are more tolerant of tap water than carnivorous plants, as Matt mentioned. The do however enjoy collected rain water, they like light fertilizing (1/3 to 1/2 usual strength) from time to time, and they benefit from flushing the accumulated soluble material from the growing mix from time to time.

Great looking phalaenopsis! :)

Great, thanks for the tips. Salt water it is ;)

I'll probably water with tap water most of the time and then flush it every so often with distilled. That won't be a big deal. Thanks guys. I hope it continues to bloom. It came from a nice humid green house to my nice dry room, so I'm thinking that might shock it a little bit. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. :)
