What temperature should my Venus Fly Trap be kept at during dormancy? PDF Print E-mail

The ideal temperature range at which to keep your Venus Fly Trap during its 3 or 4 month dormancy period is below 50 degrees Fahrenheit and above freezing (32 degrees Fahrenheit). So, the direct shortest answer is between 32 and 55 degrees Fahrenheit (0 to 13 degrees Celsius).

Now, what if your plant gets above 55 F, above 60 F, or even above 70 F? Will this trigger your plant to come out of dormancy prematurely? Don't worry too much as long as the plant doesn't stay at that temperature for an extended period of time (more than a few days). In fact, the length of the photoperiod, the amount of time the plant is receiving light during the day, seems to be driving factor as to when a Venus Fly Trap awakens from its winter sleep.

I just started putting my trap into dormancy and it was about 57 degrees (F) and dropped to 20 degrees(F) that same night. They were kept in a thi plastic container to shield from the wind. Will my plants die?

I doubt your plant will die, but there really isn't enough information in what you said to know for sure. You should join the forum and ask your question there and give more detail.

Maybe, 20 f seems a bit cold but it will be a bit warmer wuth the container. I would keep it wherever it is.

I just got my VFT (Dec. 27th) from a nursery. Would it be worthwhile to put it into dormany for 1-2 months?

I would like to add that at lower temperatures the plants need less light, and they can even survive in a dark place when kept at 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 degrees Celsius)

I got my VFT during January, and I don't know when it will come out of dormancy. When will I know when it comes out of dormancy?
