Publication: Savage Garden page 66, 1998

Registration Date: The name is not registered with IRA because the standard is missing.

Breeder: Uncertain, but Peter D'Amato is assumed since he wrote about the plant.

Nominant: Peter D'Amato

Registrant: Peter D'Amato

Description: Quoted from the ICPS database: "The leaves are rosetted all year, with deep red interior traps."

Propagation: Vegetative reproduction

Etymology: After color and growth form of the plant

Background: Dionaea muscipula 'Red Rosetted' is one of the cultivated varieties that came into existence when an author published a description of a particular plant. In all likelihood, Peter D'Amato wasn't intending to create an official cultivar when he wrote about 'Clumping Cultivar' in his book Savage Garden. The reality is that 'Clumping Cultivar' probably isn't worthy of cultivar status because its description is severely lacking, the standard is missing, and what little description there is definitely falls within the parameters of a typical Venus Fly Trap.
