Publication: German CPS (GFP) newsletter Das Taublatt, volume 51, page 25, 2005
Registration Date: November 24, 2005
Breeder: Unknown. Offered misleadingly as [Dionaea 'Akai Ryu' {R.Gagliardo}]
Nominant: anonymous ex Marcus Erbacher & M.Stoeckl, Ahaus & Moenchengladbach, DE
Registrant: Marcus Erbacher & M. Stoeckl
Description:
Quoted from the ICPS database: "(...) e.g. again and again one receives plants that display green margins even in adult leaves and under intense sunlight. In this case we are dealing with [Dionaea ' Green Dragon ' {M.Erbacher & M.Stoeckl}]."
Propagation: Vegetative reproduction
Etymology: after the colouration of the plants
Background: Dionaea muscipula 'Green Dragon' shares similar characteristics with Dionaea 'Red Dragon' such as upright spring trap growth and red coloration, but the main difference is that under similar growing conditions, 'Green Dragon' will have more green on the trap margins, petioles and leaves than will Dionaea 'Red Dragon'. Isolated sometime around 1996 as Dionaea 'Red Dragon' began to be heavily propagated for mass distribution, 'Green Dragon' is a genetic mutation of the 'Red Dragon' and not a hybrid or sexually propagated descendant of 'Red Dragon' as has been previously reported.
