Description:
Quoted from the ICPS website: " This new cultivar differs in its growth from other Dionaea cultivars in the following ways:
- All-red coloration of plants, similar to Dionaea 'Akai Ryu'.
- Marginal trichomes are reduced and divided to numerous toothlets similar to Dionaea 'Sawtooth'. Note that the trichomes on Dionaea 'Red Piranha' are dentate, but not sawtooth.
- Adult plants are about 4-6 cm in diameter, only about half the size of most Dionaea (including Dionaea 'Sawtooth').
- Enormous proliferation. One individual is able to produce 10-30 or more offshoots during a single growth season.
Propagation: Vegetative reproduction
Etymology: This name reflects the all-red color of plants, their small jewel-like size, and the fact that they are usually seen in large number — such as several garnets are often used in a single piece of jewelry. It also honors the country in which it was first bred, the Czech Republic (Bohemia).
Background: Dionaea muscipula 'Bohemain Garnet' is a cross between the all red cultivar Dionaea 'Royal Red' and the cultivar Dionaea 'Sawtooth' that originated in 2000. Its name was first coined in 2006 by Miroslav Srba of the Czech Republic (Bohemia), but the plant had actually been in circulation for quite some time under the name "red sawtooth". In Czech, the name is written as Dionaea 'Ceský Granát'. In order to achieve the largest plant possible, it is recommended that the numerous offshoots are removed. The offshoots root well on their own despite their small size.
