Threatened,Endangered, & protected Carnivorous plants in USA
Posted: Mon Jan 17, 2011 5:36 am
FTC members,
I decided to make this thread because i think is important to know about the cultivars that we have at home, in our states, and country, and how can we help as a CP community to help protect endangered Carnivorous Plants from becoming extinct, and prevent POACHING( we need to educate this "CP growers"(if you poach, you're not a CP grower)
I encourage others from other countries to do the same thing about the species of CP's at their country that are threatened o/a endangered, protected.....etc. and put it in here, in that way we can all learn and help!
I'll be running this one in USA(and hope it works well, and matt/steve likes the idea), so if you know about any other CP only in the U.S.A that are endangered and/or threaned let me know so that i could add it to the list. If you have any pics from the plants i don't have pics of, let me know ASAP, any kind of suggestion either bad or good I’ll take it, majority rules of course!

Conservation issue:
When it is ok to poach: In my opinion( this is just my personal thinking), it is ok to poach ONLY when you know a CP is in his habitat, and a new project is going on in that area, lets say a building of a house in the place where the CP's are located, you should immediatly contact the USDA(United States Department of Agriculture) they should take care from them, possible places where they might send them:universities with students working in tissue, or science related, herbology i guess, and talk to them about taking them out, or even better, the conservation of the place, if they don't listen( they should), you can always print flyers, things encouraging neigbors to fight for this(then they will listen), you can stand in the area, and don't allow the workers to come and dig the whole place to build a house, contact your local state department of agriculture, police...anything, if at last it doesn't work, then go at night and save them. Which is violation of federal law.
this is all, hope all members like it, you are more than welcome to comment on anything, anything not clear let me know, a mistake let me know please, it took me 2 days to organize this, but mistakes happen.
