I want to see all your flowers!!

So I'll start out with one of my own. I'll add some drosera flowers tomorrow, but I didn't catch most of them in time to get any open blooms. The flytrap one is a typical venus flytrap I named "Snappy" and the other one is a drosera adelae. I think the adelae is going to be first. Tomorrow I will post some sarracenia blooms and some other drosera blooms.

Nice! I've been meaning to get some photos of my D. adelae flowers. I'd never seen them before and I think they look quite nice.

Coincidentally, I was pollinating flowers yesterday and I took notice of the different petal shapes on some of the Dionaea clones and took some photos of them. Here they are:
Big Vigorous

Royal Red

Pink Venus - Recently pollinated with B52 pollen - if you look closely you can see it on the stigma

B52 - note the "divots" in the end of the petals

Great pictures everyone...

Matt - Great point about the differences in the flowers. I just checked my fine tooth x red and Big Mouth flowers and they a both a bit different than those noted on this thread. One has a scalloped edge and the other is more along the lines of your "divot" petal with ust a little difference. One day I will get a decent camera and post some pictures!

Peace!

Is the 'Big Mouth' the one with the divots? I noticed it on my 'Big Mouth' flowers as well, I think.

Hi Matt,

I just double checked and yes the "divoted" petal is fairly pronounced on the Big Mouth flower. Is the Big Mouth a cross between a B52 and another cultivar? Just wondering since they have very large traps like the B52 and now the flower tie-in??

Very cool observation regarding the different flowers for the various cultivars -- Tip of the hat to you!

Peace!

I wondered the same thing after seeing the similarity in the flowers. But I don't know the full genetic history of B52. I only know that Henning von Schmeling created it and A2 is one parent of B52.

Thanks! :)

Not all the flowers of a specific clone will be alike, though. Maybe the growing conditions or weather may influence the formation of the flowers. The flowers of my blooming B52s right now, for example, do not have that notch or "divot" at the ends of the petals. And yes, they're real B52s. :)

However, most of the red leaved Venus Flytraps do seem to have various amounts of red in the flowers too, which is pretty.

I only mentioned this because I'm betting that one cannot identify plant clones definitively based on flower shapes. Just my thoughts-- :)

Bob Ziemer did a great job with the various varieties' flowers:

Great info moof.

In looking at the pictures, as Steve noted, some of the flowers for the same cultivar don't even look the same.

Peace!
