Before & After

Postby ambkosh8465 » Sat Sep 08, 2012 4:23 pm

Some of you may remember how concerned I was this past May when one of the flytraps I bought from Matt & Steve looked like it was dying right after I bought it...

Well, it's been a pretty rough road for that poor little plant, but I've been documenting its progress, and now that summer is winding down, the results are now in. When it first arrived, all of its traps immediately turned black.

It continued dying back more and more until there was barely anything left at all.

I didn't bother taking any pictures after its leaves were all gone and I was sure it had died completely, but... Surprise! This is what it looks like right now, about four months later:

Just a little cautionary tale perhaps to anyone who thinks they've lost a flytrap because sometimes they DO bounce back and can really surprise you! This one came back thicker and fuller than any of my other plants that *didn't* have a hard time at all!

That's encouraging, I have a plant like yours I was sure was dying, but now there's tons of new growing leafs, I think they need to get use to their environment

Congratulations. it's good to know that even if VFTs can be dying, there can still be hope.

My VFT is dying right now. :C

My Maroon Monster did the same exact thing! I was so worried because I have never had a plant from Matt do that, but with time and patience it came back. These are hardy little plants :)

EXCELLENT COME BACK BILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well done and thanks for the encouragement.

Got 20 weak and almost dying VFT I "saved" from a retail store. Some of them are really looking like they won't make it, but now looking at your before and after pictures, really gives me hope :)

Just a quick question: even when your plant looked like it was going downhill (or even dead) did you just water and give it light as though it was a healthy plant?

Yes, it was over the summer, so I just left the pot sitting there beside all my others so it always got the exact same treatment as far as sunlight, rain, watering, etc. I just figured I didn't have much to lose at that point! I'm so glad I didn't get mad and throw it out!
