Sphagnum moss revided

Hello, I have a pot with tokaiensis seedling in 100% LFS. I keep the pot under 6500K LED lights for over two months. The soil is constantly wet. I noticed that the sphagnum moss came back to life. It looks a bit burned, though. I tried to increase the distance between the lights and the pot. I don't know what to do with the moss. Should I lift it with a tweezer and move it to a separate pot? What should I use for the media, wet LFS or peat moss?

That burned look is just from water evaporating. It's the minerals etc left behind when the water evaporates. I would just let it grow. Unless yo want to start your own colony in another container.

Thanks. Should I use distilled water instead of rain water?

Either is fine as long as the rain water TDS is below 50.

I took a better picture.
If I decide to move it, should I just let it stand in some water without any soil?

Sphagnum likes to be really wet but not totally submerged. Some people put it on top of dead LFS or peat and keep the dead layer really wet, some people put the moss in a container and half-submerge it, and some people just plop it on top of the soil in with whatever of their CPs like being really wet. It's not really all that fussy.

I have some growing on a base of sand. Some on a base of peat/perlite. Some on no base just live sphag. And some 75% submerged in water. It grows all 4 ways for me. As long as the humidity is high enough and it stays wet it should grow.

I moved them to a container and switched to 0ppm distilled water. There are no draining holes, so I need to be careful to add water time to time and try no to submerge the moss completely in water.

Now the sphagnum is even wetter than in the previous pot, it sucked the water up like a sponge. I think about 60% of it become submerged in water. I hope it's not a problem.

Sphagnum tends to grow up/down and not out. You will have better sucess keeping it bunched together. As it grows cut mature pieces off and use them to widen the area the moss covers. Im not an expert but thats what seems to work for me.

I tried joining them a bit. Can the fungus gnats larvae harm the LFS or not? As far as I know sphagnum doesn't have roots. The growing area is quite small anyway. I think I can catch them with a tweezer in worst case scenario. LOL. I have no gnats at the moment, just asking

You can also cover it with a lid to increase humidity, this will make it grow a lot faster. But if you do, dont forget to remove the lid a couple hours a day to let some fresh air in.
