Days are getting longer. Things are waking up from dormancy or starting to grow faster. Here are a few shots from this morning.

Here is a Drosera filiformis hibernaculam bursting into growth, on the right. His two neighbors (circled in black) are a little behind. Two smaller D. rotundifolia are also emerging from dormancy in the pic. The hibernacula are almost invisible until they start growing. They're a camouflage brownish color, the same as the media.

Drosophyllum lusitanicum is starting to grow faster. It's about 6 inches tall now.

Thanks to Fishman for sending me two leaf cuttings from his Drosera capensis "Giant" purchased clone. I put them in water filled Petri Dishes and added live Sphagnum tip cuttings when they struck. One leaf produced three plants; the other gave me two. Notice how fresh the original leaves still look.

Another propagation project is Drosera adelae "Giant", grown form a flower stalk cutting. I've been feeding him and the baby Giant capes with pulverized dry dogfood. So far, they seem to like it very much. Its main ingredients are various meats.

Last photo of the day is Drosera madagascariensis. It's starting to accelerate its growth with the longer days. It's a neat looking little plant.

How fast does the Madagascariensis grow in regards to height? I really want to get one but I don't have the space for tall growers.

It's not a rapid grower, regarding height, if you have high light levels. Mine has gone from about 1 1/2 inches to 3 inches tall in 6 months. When mine gets too tall and unwieldy, I will cut it down at the halfway mark. I will start a new plant from the cutting and I expect the remaining stalk will develop a new growing point and carry on.

Good growing,
Mike

Awesome pics Mike. Im happy to see the giant doing so well. I cannot believe that leaf cutting is still in such good shape, as i sent that a few months ago!! Under your care, it doesnt surprise me! However, i must say that I am most envious of your Drosophyllum. Thats such a work of art, how sweet is that! My Drosos are still a couple of seeds laying up in the soil in which they were sown last summer. Probably time for me to give up and start with some fresh ones lol...
