My friend gave this to me a year ago, and I haven't been growing long enough to identify some plants.

It is indeed S. rubra. It's still a little too young to tell what subspecies, but if I had to hazard a guess, it would be S. rubra subsp. rubra.

Thank you. I was thinking this myself but wasn't for sure. Slow growing little plant. However, it has doubled in size since last year.
