Harris here is the pic's of the nep flowers showing the difference between male and female as we chatted about pic's as promised
Pic no.1 is newly opened female flower the receptors are sticky waiting for pollination they are only ready for a short time once the sticky is gone they can no longer be pollinated the flower has style extended from the ovary to the stigma which is showing and is the sticky part awaiting the pollen to be presented
no.2 is a flower pod that has been pollinated and starting to swell up with forming seed
no 3 and 4 are male flowers ready to give there pollen out , you can see they only do that a section at a time as the male flowers mature with loaded pollen , the stamen stands out leaving the anther prominent with pollen

Ah i see! All thw flowers there must have been male then which is unfortunate. I only have one nep and would like to broaden my collection, what is the easiest nepentes to grow from a seed? Thanks - liam

Well I have been trying for some 4 years now to germinate neps seed and as yet have not been able to germinate one single seed ,I send my seed to a germination lab, and even they are having trouble so ,unless you have the exact conditions for the nep seed to germinate in you may find it a very long and time consuming process and seeding are so very easily killed , getting viable seed is a very big problem , you can only germinate very fresh seed,after 2 to 3 months germination is very unlikely to happen , if its toughed by human hands , its damaged buy that , if not treated with fungicide as soon as you receive them they will not germinate and so on , and getting seed that is fertile is the biggest problem of all , sorry but if I dont tell you this it will take you years to work out !!
but hay give it a try you never know you may just have the nack or be able to do it ,but read up on what you need to do first is a very good idear !

is it so?i think nep seeds is not hard to germinate unless its not viable anymore.it lost its viability very fast.if u sow fresh nep seeds,it will take around 2-3weeks normally or the longest is around 2months to germinate.humidity must be high.media should be moist all the time and it needs warmth.30celcius is the best.


welll...again,thats from my experience.but neps do take a long time to mature.maybe 5years.

all seed grown carnivorous plants take awhile to mature

i wanna try with some nepenthe seeds sometime i think i might beable to grow some hah

I have a Perfect plac to germinate neps i would have them under a daylight bulb 25*c day 20*c night 90% humidity day and night. I just need seeds :/

Harris has a unfair advantage of living in Malaysia , he has the absolute perfect conditions I talked about as where he live is where a large majority of Nep's come from , so listen to what conditions Harris has, copy that and you may have success , but i find it still very difficult

What nep has similar or the same growing conditions as sanguinea mines doing great i just need another species!

your N. sanguinea could be a intermediate or high land plant as they are found in the Malaysian peninsular and Thailand they grow from 300 to 1800 m above sea level ,so if your plant is doing well I would suggest its a high land plant so most high land plants will suit your conditions , try to get hybrids high land plant for now as most will be a lot easier to grow specially if you get high x high

To small but with flowers stem. I have mist the time when this happen because it is between the big pots. I have some questions - what is the age when the neps make flower? This nep is Nepenthes gentle ( N. fusca x N. maxima) but it's too young to form flowers stem or I think so... however, what is the reason to flower? It is strange that it tryes to form upper pitcher. Will all this exhaust this little plant ?

There is no hard and fast rule with nep's and flowering , its the plant , and if it feels right to flower it will ! , but usually most plants will flower when there upper pitcher growth occurs , that's usually a very fast upward growth spurt ,normally occurs when the plant is mature or 5 to 6 years old but no set rules there either , usually a number of factors happen , conditions are good , time of year is right general spring or summer time in all other country's except tropical , and the plant is mature one ,all though I get a lot of my cuttings flowering most years too !.
the flowering process doesn't seem to affect the plants growth at all that I have noticed, and yours looks quite normal, but a good program of fertilisation will avoid any plant set backs any how, as we have discussed before
Your flower is a male as you know ,and has well past its pollen days ,it produces a smell when rip that is very distinct as dose the female flower too, cant put what is smells like on here as its G rated forum , but as a adult you will know the smell I would think !! when or if you smell it
Best now to just cut it off and let the plant grow as per normal ,in future if you get other flower stalks and you dont have any female plant flower stalks , just cut them off ,unless you have a lot of plants , the flowering time are well out a sink , its quite hard to get male and female flowers to sprout at the same time you will need many of them like I have to get it done and even with all mine its not easy to do hope that help a bit Dimitar
