Repotting Seedlings

Postby MattBregazzi » Thu Mar 11, 2010 9:30 pm

Hi everyone,

I have a few (i.e. three or four) seedlings from last year's flowering. I sowed them in around May last year, and they had germinated by the end of the summer. Having gone through the winter, should I now expect some relatively good growth (one in particular has just started to produce what looks like a genuine trap for the first time), and if so should I repot them soon when I repot my adult plant? They are still very small, and I'm a bit wary about stressing them out and killing them.

Also, they're in a large pot with several other CPs (also seedlings), so would disturbing those not be a good idea either?

Many thanks for your advice in advance!

Hello Matt,

The seedlings should grow quite a bit this year. I have some seedlings that turned a year old in August 2009 and they were still very, very tiny. I repotted them in December and January (there were hundreds of them) and they all immediately started growing (I put them in better soil). Now they've nearly doubled in size over the last few months. I expect that some of them will be quite large by the end of summer.

I would recommend repotting them. I think they'll appreciate it and reward you with good growth this growing season ;)

And I wouldn't worry much about disturbing other CPs in the same pot. This time of year, you can do all the repotting you want and it won't affect the plants much.

Thanks for the advice with this Matt.

Update: I have (literally) just repotted my main plant, and managed to divide the rhizome into four new plants, which I have repotted seperately! Do I now just treat them as normal plants? I'm a little worried that they need full sun for a while, as the weather here for the next few days in the UK is very poor, with not much sun. Do you think they'll be OK?

Yep, they'll start growing individually now.

They'll likely not grow much during that time, but they'll take off when the weather gets warmer and sunnier!
