Hello everyone,

I received my expanded Kit from Carol at kitchenculturekit a month ago.

I have been experimenting and have some questions.

First I got the K, BAP, and NAA hormones,

I am using K right now.

Have had a lot of mold problems with the plants, I am getting better tho at sterilizing the plant pullings.

I have not seen much growth yet out of any of my jars, my longest jar is about 1 month old now.

How long before Start to see results?
Should i try BAP instead of K?
when placing the plant in the jar, should i lay the pulling flat or stand it up?

The usage of PGRs depends on what type of plant you're culturing. Venus flytraps don't require any. You can use small amounts to tweak shoot growth or if you wanted to form a callus, but they will replicate rapidly in straight MS with vitamins. I haven't experimented with PGRs on them so I don't know what amounts to use. I'm not sure about the explant orientation either, but I feel like laying it flat so that more surface area is in contact with the media would make sense.

As long as parts of plant that are growing rapidly are used, like flower stalks and newly forming leaves, no hormones are needed for Venus flytraps.

Callus can take anywhere from 6 weeks to 4 months to form. It most commonly starts forming somewhere around 2 months.

You can also try with and without hormones to compare their effects if you're up for experimentation

BAP is a little too strong for flytrap, in my experience. They tend to stay very small and divide a lot for a long time when put on BAP. I prefer Kinetin (0.5mg/L) for initialization and then moving them to hormone free media immediately after that.

Thanks for the all the info, I am now starting to see some results.

I have also just received a 100ml of PTC3 from Phytotech labs.

Yes mostly all my jars are with k, only very few so far I am trying with BAP.

If I want to try seeds, how many seeds per 6oz jar would you recommend?

Depends on how good your sterilization is. I usually put between 6 and 20 seeds per jar. 6 if I want to minimize the chances of a bunch of seeds getting contaminated all at once. 20 if I don't really mind if I have to dump out a jar full of 20 seeds.

Thanks, I think I will try like max 3 per jar, just to be safe,

Swelling and reddening of the tissue is often seen in 3-4 weeks. After transfer to fresh medium, bumps to v.small leaves may be seen. After the third cycle onto fresh medium (~3 months) leaves should be readily visible.

ok, i just wanted to update and ask one question,

I did 4 seeds to a jar. They now have all sprouted since 4/19/17 , very exciting some have there first little trap already.

As for the question,

when working with leave pullings to put in a jar, do i leave the trap on the leave or take the trap off before i put it in to the jar?

here are some of my good jars so far.
