Right now, I have three non-carnivorous plants in my dorm room. One's an air plant that I bought last may, one's an orchid that I bought yesterday, and one's a little cactus that I got as a cutting from the trash can in the life science lab at Corning Community College two years ago. I repotted the orchid immediately after getting back to my room, as it looked terrible. There were only a few good roots, so I hope I can get it to thrive and flower again one day. The cactus is a lot bigger than it was when I got it, and has produced too many offsets to count. It's due for repotting next chance I get. I water the air plant in the sink twice a week, and it seems fine with that.

I got it from a vendor at a festival in my town. It was annoyingly expensive (probably in part due to the thing it's hanging from), but it was the best looking one they had. Some in my family think it looks too spider like though.

Also, I don't know how many remember my haworthia from last year named Sodium. He was named that because he was in a pot that had once been labeled Natalia but most of the label had been torn off leaving just Na. He's not with me now due to a mistake I made over the summer, but I named my current cactus Potassium and labeled it K like I said I'd do :D

I have two more additions to my dorm, thanks to Evenwind who sent me two Haworthias. I'll have another tomorrow- I ordered a Drosera capensis Alba from the Flytrapstore last week. I saw it was in stock, and couldn't help myself. I'm a member of the Horticulture club on campus, and we're making terrariums this Tuesday, so I'll get another addition then. At this rate, I won't have room for myself :) I have to be careful though- the windowsill is cold and drafty. I moved my more delicate plants away from it and pulled the shades all the way up to give them light.

In hindsight, maybe I shouldn't have put those plants on top of a letter I was writing to my sister when I took the pictures. I had to crop the top one, because too much was showing. Oops.

Bad news- my air plant is dead. water must have gotten into the center without me noticing that it wasn't drying. I didn't realize until it was too late because the leaves looked healthy until the end. I noticed discoloring on some new growth a few days ago, but by that time it was too late. I took the outer leaves off one by one, but it's core had rotted out completely :( I kept the thing it hung on- I'll get another one someday. It's just too bad- I really liked it.

Another addition! I was at Walmart yesterday, and found this little cactus on a shelf of succulents. It, like most of them, had one of those fake flowers glued on, but I liked the plant itself so I decided to buy it. Annoyingly enough, it was glued right on the top where the new growth should come in. After a lot of effort and pricked fingers, I got the glue off. I don't think too much damage was done. I'll repot it when I get home for break in a few days.

There was one Venus fly trap, but I didn't buy it. It looked nearly dead, and without being able to see the rhizome I didn't think it was worth buying something I probably couldn't save. I'm pretty low on money. I still feel bad though.
