I was looking for pumice to add to my soil mix and all I could locally find was blocks of pumice rock in the pool section of Home Depot. Is it ok to use if I pulverize the blocks into sand? Thanks

Are there any hydroponics stores in your area? they typically carry pumice.

is pumice better than perlite in particular for dew pines?

There are not any hydroponics stores in my area. Most recipes I've read call for parts of all-purpose sand, perlite, peat, and pumice. I've acquired all the correct ingredients except for the pumice which came in a block form. I'm just wondering if I smash it up - if this block I found is ok

Too bad there's not a lot of dewy pine growers around here :(

For better or for worse, I made my own mix from locally sourced products. It's 2 parts perlite, 1 part peat, 1 part pumice (pulverized from pool blocks), and 2 parts multi-purpose sand. Ill post pictures in the coming weeks with progress!
