Just wanted to say thanks for posting your struggles and how ya got through em. I like the whole foam cup in a pot idea, I think I'll try that since my VFT's got a little close to drying out last year. I'm a *little* jealous of your clusters though :p. Good luck with the 2015 season.

Thanks Ted for the comments.........anything to share so other folks could relate. Thats' how I am able to help these plants survive through the years. By reading other peoples advice and applying them. Some advise works, some don't.

I will post more photos coming soon. That will give a growing time-line with respect to the plants coming out of dormancy. The row is getting more dense and colors are starting to come out. For some reason this season, my VFT D. Dente seems to get hit with black spot. Few leaves here and there. Not as bad as before when I raised the water level high and the entire row got contaminated. There's no reason for a new leaf to deteriorate under normal conditions.....its fungus man. From my own experience, a highly diluted Bayer Systematic Disease Control always seems to cure it. I would first apply the fungi-spray, then come back and fine mist RO water to dilute the application even more. This is done only at night. All other VFT's seems to be fine, no fungus problems at all. Remarkably, just to note, the plant seems to catch more fly's than others, maybe more insects are just attracted to the nectar this plant secrets....It is interesting, I would watch a green bottle fly just greedily go at the nectar with no regards to the skeletal corpse of its relative lying right below it, sometimes even stepping over it. Then BAMM! awhh that sucks, now your stuck, I would say. Fair and square.....what a stupid insect.............its RAD to watch these plants do their thing , "LIVE"................

A little off topic here Bristol but I am from Kansas and what do you mean by "Last weekend, we has strong Santa Ana Winds here in the SoCal area."....what constitutes as strong for Cali ? :) We had Dorothy and flying houses after all. LOL

Strong enough to topple over a 4" sarracenia pot and roll it across the yard to the masonry wall. Strong enough to break your favorite sarracenia pitcher of the year...but plants and leaves could be replaced. Of course in Kansas the great Leviathan Beast that roams the area yearly (1 to 2 mile wide tornadoes) is beyond strong enough. It eats your plants. Well thinking about it could eat an entire house too.....that's frightening especially at night when you can hear but can't even see it.

Excellent pictures, everything looks lovely! Do you have a growlist? It looks like you have a lot of plants, that's why I was wondering. :)

Truthfully, I really don't have a grow-list. I never bothered to write one up........I only know what I have by looking at it....I should for I tend to forget as I age..

My love for these plants stems from when I lived on the Navy Base, Pensacola FL. As a child I could clearly remember seeing the tops of pitcher plants among the fields that go far into the horizon, everywhere, driving on the road, stopped at a gas station, even looking beyond the fence where I lived. Circa 1980 my Dad transferred to West Pack Naval Fleet here in San Diego, CA. No more CP's but there was a store called "Nurseryland" that carried Sarracenias, Droseras and VFT's....I would ask my mommy to buy me one every time, like a kid going to McDonalds. Some of those plants I still have today. This is how I reminisce my childhood days.........................in "My CP-Land" where It's all about the vibe of feel-in young again though I am not.............

Thanks Matt for the comments, I'm sure I'd get that young feel-in again if I were standing inside your greenhouse! That's where its at.......Like everyone else, a true prize I would like is to obtain one of the DC-All Red Clone from the flytrapstore.......

We've been putting a few of them in stock this year. They're grabbed up quickly though. It's a slow growing plant, so we haven't had many to offer because we try to get them to a decent size before selling them.

VFT "Row", June, 2015 season........continued....

JUST TO SHARE MY EXPERIENCE THIS SEASON...........

By this time you could hear the bugs screaming for their lives from with-in the sarracenia tubes, as the acid broth rises to engulf them, slowly break-en their bodies down for absorption. "Thats messed up man, cruel way to die." my friend would say. I'll always reply, "Plant caught them fair and square...its their fault."

VFT - B52 is the only plant that caught "Hopper." (That Locust in the Pixar Movie "Bugs Life.") I was so happy and proud for my plant. I thought, I'll PIX this wonderful event later. But by the time I came back for the photo, it ate its way out then munch on some of my Pitcher Plants. I'm gonna spray that bug the next time I see it or its relatives. But no, if I spray it I could poison my plants so I'll squash it instead with my own hands (wearing graden gloves) for the ants to come and break it up..... But hey, it got out, free'd it-self.....that's fair and square.
