It's fuzzy, but it looks like a crane fly to me. I think I saw the long legs. Am I right? We called them mosquito eaters when I was little, although my sister (who's scared of daddy-long-legs) called them flying daddy-long-legs. Nice traps by the way.

Southern Hemisphere you say? I wonder if it's the same species of black widow that I remember then. I'm going to look up their range.

Edit- definitely a different species than the one's I'm familiar with, although the bottom is identical. What does the top of the abdomen look like? The only one I'm finding with google that looks the same underneath has a red stripe on the top and is known as the redback spider. Is that it?
