Just received my new red piranha from flytrap store yesterday! Looks great, bigger than I expected. Hopefully I potted it ok. I basically filled the pot with soil and then stuck my finger into it. Then I dropped the roots down the hole and filled in soil with a little RODI to wash it around the roots. Sound good? Also, Matt if you read this, were they grown under sun or lights?

Your potting method sounds very similar to what I do. I usually use a screwdriver instead of my finger to make the hole, but a finger works well too.

That Red Piranha was growing out in my greenhouse. It should be fine to put in full sunlight depending on where you live. If you're living somewhere that the sun is very intense, you'll be better off giving it only morning sun and keeping it out of the mid-day sun for a while. That's actually advisable anyway because the plant should get a chance to settle in a bit and perhaps put down some roots before throwing him out in full sun.

Heres a picture if anyone wants to see along with my typical (from lowes) not sure why its growing low to the ground. It did have a couple higher leaves but a squarrel ate them before I made a screen cover.

Looks nice! Congrats on the new plant. Interestingly enough, it looks very similar to the growth my FTS Crimson is putting out right now.

Really? Mine haven't put out any upright growth yet. They seem to prefer to stick low to the ground compared to Red Piranha, which seems to grow much more upright in the spring and early summer.

I too would love to seem some updated photos of your FTS Crimson Sawtooth, Blake.

I'll try to snap some pictures when I get home from work today.

I agree with salty.
The Plant Size / Maturity is listed as "Young", someone would immediately
assume that to be a tiny plantlet. On the contrary, the 'Red Piranha' I
received was larger than I expected also.

Excellent quality, very healthy, and the roots are long.

I potted the 'Red Piranha' into a 20oz styrofoam cup that is around 6 inches deep.
But the roots are nearly reaching the bottom already!

I think I should've potted it into a 32oz styrofoam cup or a larger pot.
I didn't want to give mine any additional stress, so I'll definitely repot
it next year.

The 'Red Piranha' is one beautiful cultivar. I'm so glad FTS made it available
and I was able to purchase one. Thank you FTS!

since it is a styrofoam cu you hould be able to cut it in half carefuly and move the whole soil chunk into another pot without messing up the roots much.

I'll try that.

I'm new to my VFT hobby, so every aspect
of VFT growing & care I'm trying to learn and practice.
Including the potting part.

My main concern is I might make a mistake
when cutting the cup and transferring
that will scatter the soil thus disturbing the roots

I'll practice it on some extra soil and cups (no VFTs),
and see if I'm capable of doing the method you mentioned.

If I can't do that method properly, I'll leave it alone for now.
The 'Red Piranha' made a fast recovery (mail & potting),
and doing fine outdoors anyway.

I have lost several typical VFTs under my "care" (since I started my VFT hobby around 6 months ago),
including a David Conner 'B52' that I nearly killed (hopefully recovering now), so I'm quite
apprehensive doing any additional stress to my remaining VFTs until I learn more and practice more.

Back to the main topic, the 'Red Piranha' is such a beautiful cultivar.
I'm appreciating its beauty more and more daily, after finally having one
instead of just looking at 'Red Piranha' pictures online.
Definitely one of my favorite cultivars.

I'm happy FTS made it available, a place where you're assured of its
authenticity and quality.

Anyone have any red piranha pictures to post? Did a search on here and google and there arent too many.
