I just tried the pure white LEDs as I want to try if this will work better that my Red/Blue LED setup. I got some deals on Ebay and bought myself some drivers, 1 Watt white LEDs and lens. Here is on of the 10X1 watt ones. I observed new growth from my slow growers. Ceph and baby N. Bical.

Are these the "grow led" lights? What light are they producing?

"Normal" leds produce monochromatic light which isn't suitable for plants, it's totally useless and are the only led lights avaiable in Poland. I heard about the "plant-growing led lights", can you post some links to Ebay? I'd like to read something about them

Hi Zack, around 30 bucks for the 10X1 watt LEDs, lens and driver.

Matt, you know me that well. I just tried Trichoderma and it's doing well for the Cephs. No hormones hehe.

I do love LEDs! The EE in me wants to get some now, even though I don't think I need them, haha. Let us know how they work!

Aren't Cephs usually red in color?

Only under very intense lighting.

Which is better? Red or green? I'm assuming red.

I don't think either is "better" in terms of health of the plant. I think it simply comes down to what you, as a grower, prefer to look at.

Is LED more energy conserving or something? what about CFls

Hello,

The red and blue spectrum are the most used spectrum of light for plants. The blue is for foliage and red is for flowering. But remember that the spectrum should be usable as they have different frequencies and most are only wasted by the plants.

Kittyklaws, LEDs are indeed more energy efficient but you need to choose the correct LED for plants.

Hello Kitty,

Some of the normal LEDs would work pretty well as long as you choose the correct frequency.
