Hi everyone, I just got a bareroot nepenthes northiana. Heard it can't be planted in peat and sphagnum. Anyone can suggest a good mix for it? Just asking, would small pebbles work

The best source of info on this type of question is usually going to be the seller. Always try asking the people that are actually growing a specific plant before going elsewhere.

Good luck with the new Nep!

I have a northiana for over 6 years. Started with pure sphagnum. Then, changed to coarse red clay 3 years ago during repot. Topped with live sphagnum. Both media work fine. Though this species has the reputation of being picky in media, there is no such observation among local growers. Not sure climate difference or probably weakness in specific clone.

This is a recent photo of it in its pot. There is another pitcher in the background. A bical pitcher just happen to sit in its pot.

Close-up of clay from another pot. Not sure this type of media is available to you.

Oh alright. Nice northiana tzestan! Currently i have the north in small aquarium pebbles that have been in my intermediate terrarium. I also added in a few bioballs used for aquariums as well. Then top it off with some dried sphagnum. Not sure what to expect. The seller told me that it was okay and i just had to keep an eye on it
