Several of my traps have caught these long legged, winged insects recently. This morning I noticed Shogun Star had caught one, and 1 of my typicals just opened up, so I could see the carcass of it

anyone know what it is?

Crane fly, maybe?

I'd say crane fly as well. Or, as my sisters and I called them, daddy-long-legs with wings

Mine tend to catch grand daddy long leg spiders, and it's great fun to watch the legs wiggle around after they're trapped!

Mine too! Sometimes the whole plant seems to shake because those long legs are reaching out so far and desperately trying to grab hold of something, so all the nearby leaves and traps start shaking from being grabbed too. I always picture a "Far Side" cartoon where the insects are watching a horror movie in a theater where they're getting devoured like that and some of them are covering their eyes (if they have any) and running out of the theater screaming!

Mine have caught a bunch of those too, especially my drosera. I wish I could see one get caught by a VFT. I can't figure out how they manage to get their body inside a little trap with those long legs and wings so frequently.

I've never seen it actually happen either, but I sure would like to. Those daddy-long-legs must have to carefully lower their whole body down into the trap to get their mouth at the nectar, but then the trap snaps shut leaving all those long spindly legs going crazy everywhere! Mwah-ha-ha-ha!

. They're pretty stupid about it too. Last year I helped one OUT of a trap (its body was half out and wouldn't have been digested anyway,) and 10 minutes later it was COMPLETELY trapped in another trap on the same plant. -_-; Guess I interrupted suicide. :/
