I would like to know why this happens and how to prevent it.

Can you tell us a little more? Where are you? What species, and is it a new plant? How are you growing your plants?

Unless you live in the desert southwest, i doubt that sun is the problem. Please describe your conditions and where you live, what water are you using, what soil? Add some detailed pictures if you can. Otherwise we have nothing to go on.

If its happening to the new pitchers you could have a pest problem.
I had a similar problem earlier in the year with thrips. Look around at the base of the plant in between the leaves and in the top layer of soil. I had to use a magnifying glass to figure out what was going on.

what is the potting medium you are using there and container? what type of water do you water it with? I'm still learning about these plants but they look to be potted too deeply - at least I believe so. perhaps more experienced growers can chime in there.

aside from that watering, planting medium or pests are your best bet for the issues.

Spagnum moss, rain water , and it's not deep the bulb is on the surface.

I'm going to repot it this winter in peat moss , the reason I put it in spagnum is because I ran out of peat moss.

do you know what brand sphagnum it is by chance? it looks to be of fairly poor quality or broken down pretty far - if it is mosser lee, that may be the problem also (it can look very similar or sometimes way worse)

if you have a tds meter have you tested the runoff from the soil?

Flavas usually look crappy this time of year and produce Phyllodia instead of pitchers.

I'd use a 50/50 combination of peat and perlite. Are you growing on the tray system?
