Hello. I bought a VFT as akai ryu a few months ago. I repotted it to a bigger pot. Looks like its doing good, getting full sun all day and producing long leaves, but they are not completely red and I don't know why? They are supposed to be red, aren't they?

Just out of curiosity, what are your night time temps like?

It may just need some time, but Smooter has a point - higher temperatures (especially at night) tend to reduce the coloration in flytraps.

Daytime temperature is about 28-30 celsius, and night time is about 12-16 celsius.

I actually like that two-tone look. Maybe it will become a more solid red later in the season?

Looks like it needs more light, mine look like this when they come out of dormancy. The leaves should be much more narrow when it's getting sufficient light.

Hmmm. I give mine about 6-7 hrs a day of full sun and it looks very similar to this (plus some deformed traps), but when i got him he was all red. Dont get me wrong, i actually kind of prefer the two tone look. But does this mean that mine need more light, or is it the heat? and if it is the heat then how would you fix that if it stays outdoors?

My akai ryu always came out green, then two-tone in the springs before turning all red. I never had it revert back to green during the growth season, though. Where did you buy it from? It's hard to tell from the top but the pot looks a little small for it, unless it's deeper than it looks. The old growth looks oddly droopy like it got too dry, but the new growth looks good.

I got mine from the FTS around late april, so I know for sure its a red dragon and was in good condition when I got it. I'll post a before and after pic of mine later when I get home
