According to all the books I have read, The traps can catch about three meals
before they start to die. I have some traps that are yet to open, so I will conduct some experiments on them and see how long they last with out catching any thing.

I got brown spots on mine earlier this year and it ended up being Red spider mite. Is the brown marking getting bigger?

Red Spider mite can't be seen with the naked eye you need to us a magnifier and then you might just see little dots running about.

I think if your plant has lots of leaves, you might want to cut it off if it spreads. I also don't don't know why that can happen but it could be because of it being too hot.
