Yes. It seems really stemmy, which is odd, but at least you have a secondary point for backup.

I know people are sticklers for this: I think a basal shoot comes from the soil, while a growth point emerging from the stem above ground is an auxiliary shoot, lr something like that.

Some of my Neps put out new leaves from the older part of the stem. Bical makes a ton of them. I don't think you can call them basals. I think this kind of new growth would be considered a basal.

Right? It's a palawanensis and I have several that already have basals. I don't know if it's typical for the species or just the clone.

So will the new growth have its own root system. I am new to neps. I have a couple but i do not have basals or additional growth points on any of my plants.

*Disclaimer, this is based off my experience and research with neps but others may have found something different or have different experiences.*

Basal shoots are growths off the BASE (hence the name) of the plant stalk (not sure if that's the right term for neps). Sometimes they will pop off easily (or can be cut) and can start putting down their own roots - though removing basals is generally not the preferred route for propagating nepenthes. To my knowledge only very vigorous species are propagated with basals as there is a higher risk of losing one or both pieces by messing with the plant at the base. Most people propagate neps by taking cuttings of the stalk from the top down and cutting vines from growth points originating from higher up on the main stalk (again not at the base).
