Please help! My monkey cup pitcher plant is NOT looking good :( I have no idea whats happened to it, it was looking not too good a while ago so I potted it in 1:1 of peat and pertile, with sphagnum moss on top with a pot that has a drainage hole. I made sure I planted it properly and rinsed all the potting media...

Can someone help me?!?

Ahaha Monkey Cups! Of course...

But anyway, we need to know details. What species? What are your conditions? What have you been watering it? How long have you had it for?

I'm not sure of the exacts species, it is a Nepenthes (but not sure of anything more specific than that)

It is currently outside with my VFT and other pitcher plant, on a plant stand on my verandah so I would say it gets about 5 hours of direct sunlight a day.

I water it only bottled distilled water when the potting media under the sphagnum gets dry.

I haven't had it for very long, maybe 6 months..My other carnivores plants are looking much better than this one :(

Sorry but we need to know the species.

Is it a cutting? Looks like one of the leaves have been vut in half, a common practice if bagging is not done. What's your humidity?

Also, Neps are tropicals so they dont do winter. You cant put them in the same environment as VFTs and Sarrs

Well I don't know the species... I bought it in a small pot from a local nursery .

So what, its just going to die because its winter?? Its outside so I don't track humidity levels

First Nepenthes don't really prefer to grow in a peat mix it holds water that can lead to root rot especially when they are small. Next the reason we are asking which type is because some need very warm and humid environment to thrive. So what are temperatures where you are growing your plant?

What kind of mix do they prefer??

It is the beginning of spring where I am, so today it will be a max of 15 degrees celsius

Looks like the stem is much too deep, not even the older, woody part of the stem should be buried much under the media. can we get a picture from above?

Looks like part of the stem is burried in the soil, which may be causing the stem below to rot. Either way, I'd repot it, and keep only the roots under the soil. Post pictures of it unpotted.

Thank you for your help!! I have taken some photos and have just repotted it. I'm using 1:1 peat and pertile, is that okay?

I've also been doing some reading into what exact species it is, and I am thinking a 'ventrata'- thanks everyone for your help! :)

I'm not sure why everyone is skipping over the whole 15C max temp issue.
