Just saying hello from South Carolina. I started growing carnivorous plants over 3 years ago and I have spent a lot of time on this site learning as I went along. I mainly grow flytraps, sarracenia and nepenthes. I also have sundews and utricularia that have hitchhiked on sphagnum moss. Speaking of sphagnum, I also grow it for use in my bog, pots and terrariums.

In addition, I also grow carnivorous companion plants in my bog. They include: Orange Milkwort, 3 species of Meadow Beauty, Grass Pink orchid, Yellow Fringed orchid, Green Bog orchid, Ragged Fringed orchid, Bog Buttons, Lady's Tresses, Bog Violet and some other stuff I can't remember.

I am in the process of setting up two terrariums, one for highland and one for lowland nepenthes. The lowland is a 75 gallon aquarium with sliding doors. The highland is an Exoterra 36x18x36 that will have a cooling system. Both will be automated with lights, misting, fog, fans and heat if needed.

Anyway, I'm glad I finally registered and I'm eager to get started sharing what I've learned and my future terrarium and bog builds with you all.

Here's some pictures of my bog and flytraps. The middle pot of flytraps are all DCXL's from FLYTRAPSTORE.com. They started as one plant that I divided. The pictures are from May of this year. The bog grew completely out of control by the end of summer and I will have to dig it up and replant it in the spring.

I have numerous species of nepenthes but I don't have pictures on this tablet. I do have a picture of my small grow chamber that contains a Hamata, Ramispina and Vogelii. They will go in their larger terrarium when it's finished. This terrarium is a 20 gallon long aquarium insulated on the bottom and sides with removable front insulation. One third of it is divided with plexiglass to make a separate holding area for three ice packs that cool it to 55 degrees overnight. There are two small fans for circulation. One runs constantly and the other comes on at night to circulate the cool air around the ice packs. I have a fogger but it rarely comes on. The false bottom holds water and combined with the fans and sphagnum moss, the humidity easily stays above 80% even with the introduction of the ice packs. The light is a Finnex Ray2 LED. There are 1 inches vents in the glass for fresh air. Day time temp is 75. Everything is controlled by a Zoomed Hygrotherm and a timer.

So far this setup has been excellent and plant growth and pitchering has been beyond my expectations. It is great for small plants and at their current rate of growth I really need to get to work on their new home!

I found a picture of the bog from the end of August. Out of control! Living where they grow naturally has it's advantages.
