As promised a quick update. This is the same baby I have been keeping up with. It has now developed a second carnivorous leaf and has started turning a bit red. He also has some new neighbors.Image

It's been about three weeks since the last update. I figure I should keep this going for anyone who wants to see what to expect when growing cp's from seed.

Since the last post I have battled algae, some kind of mold and transitioned these guys to outdoor living. The plant I have been keeping track of is up to five leaves now and I have been able to see it without a magnifying for the past couple of weeks.

I owe a huge thanks to boarderlib for his help with saving my babies.Image

Not noobish at all, I've been growing carnies since I was a kid and I still get excited when I get seedlings up. Especially if it's something I've never grown before! (Like these D. serpens seedlings!) Image

Awesome! I just got some D. Serpens from hollyhock. You just gave me a heads up on what to watch for. Thank you so much!

I got some serpens from a different grower.
They're a beast!
They're outgrowing my finlaysonia by an unbelievable amount. Some are over twice as large!
This could be my new go-to "Beginners First Sundew" recommendation.

Good growing,
Mike

I'm going it for the first time. I've heard that there a fast grower but also read that they like warm temperatures, which makes perfect sense. We'll see what happens with our cool Seattle weather.

That's great to know. Now I'm glad I use an 8" pot for them. Thank you.

By the way, I don't know if you remember, but I got some of your Byblis liniflora seed from the seed bank and tried the bleach treatment. They still haven't done anything yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though. Hopefully they decide to grow, I wanted to donate the seed back to the seedbank.

Mine germinated in 9 days. I put some in media outside and I tried water germination in the house at 85 degrees during the day. I can't tell if the outdoors seed has done anything, but the ones in the test tube were fast.

I'm in Tennessee, so it's been staying around 92-98 degrees out there. The humidity has been staying at 60% or higher. I've heard the same about the hot weather so hopefully it will go well. I hope yours do well. They look good, I have a soft spot for seedlings.

Mine took about 2 weeks. They get 75 or so during the day and into the mid 60s at night. (Seattle realities, man!) :-)
