I've been growing this Drosophyllum from seed in normal garden compost + perlite for half a year now. From some other accounts on the internet, the plant seems to be able to grow in a range of 'normal' (as opposed to strictly nutrient poor) soils and is naturally found in alkaline soils. It seems that it is able to tolerate a wide range of growth media.
This leads me to wonder if anybody has tried to grow it as a 'normal' in-the-ground garden plant. It would certainly be quite impressive specimen if allowed to grow large. I could conceivably imagine it looking quite natural in a cactus bed or perhaps a native Australian garden...
