Hi all.

Lee here from Kwa Zulu Natal South Africa.

Recently acquired my first carnivorous plants about a month and a bit ago. (VFT, Saracenia (American trumpet) and Ventricosa trumpet.

Since then I've acquired another pitcher, 2 different Trumpets, a sundew and a purpurea.

Sadly these creatures have become a bit of an obsession now lol. Often being accused by my other half of giving them more attention...

The daily struggle to not keep buying more is becoming increasingly difficult...

Looking forward to interacting with you guys and hopefully steal some of your wisdom ;)

Chat soon...

Bhart90 that's just evil dude. JUST when I was getting the urge to buy more carnivorous under control...

I live up in the Midlands Nottingham Rd area. It's kinda similar to Cape Town Highlands (thier local natural habitat) climatic actually. So mnnnn..... Guess I know what to get next lol...

The winters here are much colder than cape Town tho. It snows... So if they can survive this kind of cold then hell yes, I'm going to investigate buying one...

Well be sure to keep you updated.

Do you have one?

O yea, I'm going to message my other friend on here who knows more about them than i, his name is Fishman, him and I worship ours hahahaha.

I got no pictures atm but yea.

Apparently there are 2 different varieties.
One is just "typical"
Another is called "big easy" which wraps it's self around it's prey.

And call me brenden if possible, I wish I could change that to my name but w/e

You always live there?

From Durban originally. But we recently sold everything and moved up here... Got tired of the big city life and wanted something more laid back...

Careful, it easily spirals out of control! Since you're clearly going to end up with a lot more over the years, I'd recommend this to make it easy:
  1. Find cheap, deep identical pots and buy a lot of them. When you have lots of plants, it gets pretty hard to keep up with which needs water and when if they're all in different size containers and different media.
  2. Find some bulk media and even keep some pre-mixed/washed on hand. It always comes in handy

Hiya Brenden...

I buy from 2 places. Jozi Carnivores and more recently Pans Carnivores.

There is also another place I found called cultivo carnivores but I haven't purchased from them yet.

Look them up on Facebook. You might be pleasantly surprised at how non backwards we are lol... Well.... current president excluded:-) :-p
