Universities do that a lot. They need them for genetic experiments. I'm sure you could find something on line for mixing the media for them. You will get a lot of them really quickly. Let us know if you find something on line.

You mean, you're trying to grow fruit flies?

Banana peels! They love banana peels and super ripe bananas. Oh, oh, and oranges! If you plan on culturing flightless (wingless) fruit-non-flying-flies <-----(weird...) you will need to buy a small culture first and then you can culture on your own.

Here's a link that even helps you out with making the media and culture:

http://www.anapsid.org/fruitfly.html (this one is just the media)

Sounds like something fun to do! I get the flying kind in my compost.

Thanks for posting that! If you are keeping baby reptiles or amphibians, you need those to feed them.

what I used to do was put a piece of a banana in a water bottle trap I made. It would catch a lot of fruit flies. Then I would take out the banana and put the flies in the freezer and then feed them to my sundews.

That's cruel. LOL. Just kidding! Actually that's a good idea. I think the trap would work just as well.

Yeah the trap is pretty easy to make and the banana attracts them quickly, even when you think there are no fruit flies in your area.

Pretty self explanatory, the flies come in and they cant get out because they try to get out through the sides.
