Whats up everyone. I have been very busy with work the last few months so i have not have much time to post here. But im off for the holiday and it was a record 74 degrees today so i went out and got some photos of my snoozing flytraps. I have kinda neglected them a little, my Filiformis dried up and the medium became rock hard. i think its dead but i let it soak for a day and well see if it comes back. All the others seam to be doing great. the color of them is amazing :D and there are still growing but very slowly and low to the ground growth but its cool to see. one think i noticed is when the lfsm drys out its a b#tch to re moisten and it all drains out the bottom before getting absorbed. i have been letting my plants get to dry and im sure thats not the best but with this new job its always dark when i get home. If i remember i water them on the weekends. anyway here are some photos

Im happy to report my Couqillage is doing fantastic now. :) sometimes you just have to be patient.

A shame about that Filiformis... I was rather looking forward to seeing how it grew. Sorry about that.

Is that sphagnum moss growing on that Ginormous or regular moss?
My eyes and most likely my brain may be deceiving me, but it looks dense and light green enough to be regular moss. If so, how is the plant fairing in it?

That is a common surface moss, often comes on California Carnivore plants. I personally like the look of it, but my winters kill it off. It hasn't harmed my plants yet though.

Fascinating! I asked the question of regular moss as a topping a while ago and the answers weren't pleasant.

But if you say that no harm is given I may as well try it myself.

Awesome pictures by the way!

That is a type of carpet moss that will eventually restrict the growth of flytraps and can cause harm after it gets thick enough to put pressure around the center of the rosette and prevent new leaves from being able to emerge easily or at all.

Well i think i might have killed all my plants :( its 11 degrees F outside right now. I have a heater on in my greenhouse but i had it set to low and my greenhouse was at 25 degrees. I went out and turned up the thermostate but there was ice in my greenhouse :(. My plants were all nice and pretty yesterday and now they are all dead looking druppy. Idk if they were cold long enought to kill them but the leaves that dident die durning the fall sure are now. I knew i should have sealed my greenhouse with sealent.
My greenhouse is up to 31 already so i hope i saved them

They can take brief freezes so maybe they will be alright. Time will tell.

Your plants should be fine. I've had my flytraps freeze solid on me quite a few times before. They're tougher than you think. As long as they don't stay frozen for an extended period of time or are exposed to harsh winter winds while frozen they should be fine. They may not look very pretty but the rhizome will still be healthy.

i hope so. I think i might wrap my greenhouse with my old pool solar cover. ill cut it into long strips and wrap the greenhouse. that will cover the cracks so the warm air from my heater cant escape. I got down to 9 degrees F last night and even with my heater at full blast running non stop it only went up to 36 degrees so ill losing all my heat :(
